When Facebook Becomes Blogging

I'm going to put this 'above the fold' because a lot of people clearly think the rest of us are going insane. I know a lot of you think that coronavirus is just a panic and no threat at all, but if this virus becomes nothing, and I'm obviously someone who has my doubts, it will in large part be because of the preventative measures others take. It won't kill you just to go to the store now: buy the rice, buy the beans, buy the canned vegetables and fish, buy the toilet paper. Even if you don't need it, at some point, whether or not it's now or in a while, you'll get to use it. Right-wingers rightly go apoplectic at left-wingers who bristle at preventative measures for terrorism and war, and it reflects poorly on the character of people who don't believe that we have a fundamental right to security just as we do to liberty and equality, but illness is a kind of terrorism too, and if you're not preparing, you're collaborating with it. The world has just as much a right to be free of illness as it does of explosions in the streets. Just do it, whether or not you're going to need it, it might not make a difference to anybody at all, but it just might make all the difference in the world to people you care about.
