There are a lot of casual antisemites. Theodorakis was 'a formal one' who genuinely believed Jews controlled the media and banks and refused to appear in America because of 'Jewish control of orchestras', and still worse, mouthed off publicly about it all the time. Theodorakis was a hero, and the internet has trouble coming to terms with the fact that 99% of heroes do things to severely tarnish their legacy. People are very complicated. On the one hand, many more Communists died to save world Jewry than democrats ever did, but along with his very brave heroism, somebody has to note just how virulent an antisemite he was. I think a more productive way to acknowledge his passing than keeping quiet is to acknowledge his stupefying bravery while at the same time note that about Jews, he was a lunatic.
