A third Fischer. Another master.
There's suddenly a huge number of youtube videos of the Orquestra Sinfonica Do Estado de Sao Paulo, and as I've worked my way through the first video, it's showing another master who radiates music. Taking all the metronome and dynamic markings into play without being a slave to them, constantly adjusting dynamics in the moment, producing music that sings, dances, phrases, flows with breath, glows with overtones, and creates a sacred space where each musician can express freely.
If this is indicative of what Thierry Fischer does, this is not just the work of another underrated conductor better than the majority of celebrities, this is the work of one of the world's greatest podium masters. Right up there in that silver echelon with Blomstedt and Ivan Fischer.
